Bitter fruits by Alice Clark Platts

This was a review copy provided by real readers, the author is a fairly renowned human rights lawyer who has decided on a change of career after doing a creative writing course and there begins some of my problems with this novel. The descriptions go above and beyond anything necessary for a crime novel and often take away from the pace of the story which can be slightly frustrating.

Also the main concept of the story is given away in the first few pages and while it’s interesting to see how it’s resolved it isn’t as satisfying as some other novels I’ve read recently. The main character is slightly 2 dimensional but is likeable which is a plus. I wouldn’t go massively out of my way to read more works by this particular author.
